The Medical Isotope and Cyclotron Facility (MICF) is a partnership between the University of Alberta, Alberta Health Services, Alberta Advanced Education and Technology, Alberta Infrastructure, Alberta Innovates – Health Solutions, Alberta Health and Wellness, Natural Resources Canada and Advanced Cyclotron Systems to produce a stand-alone, medium-energy cyclotron facility with an integrated radiopharmacy.

The repurposing project is taking place at the former home of the Balmoral Curling Club on South Campus, which was constructed in 1957 and has been vacant since 2007.

Once complete, the space will be used as a research and academic facility that houses both University of Alberta and Alberta Health Services teams working on medical isotope research and production of medical isotopes. The medical isotopes produced in the facility will be used locally to diagnose and treat patients with cancer, cardiac, neurological and other diseases.
